Where to go in Central America?

Central America is full of unbelievable places. I just came back from a long trip there and I want you to know where to go in Central America to see the most amazing places.

1. Merida

Merida is the jewel of Yucatan Peninsula. Quieter and definitely cheaper compared to other nearby cities, it is a place you can’t miss.

It is perfect to be based here while you explore the wonders of Yucatan, for example some Mayan ruins or cenotes nearby.

2. San Francisco de Campeche

This is a city you must visit if you are planning where to go in Central America. It is also one of the safest places to visit in Mexico.

San Francisco de Campeche is a wonderful colonial city. Its historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

3. Calakmul ruins

It is not a common place you will read of when looking for where to go in Central America, but it’s totally worth it and it is also a UNESCO Heritage Site.

These ruins are deep in the jungle and you can reach them from the city of Chetumal.

4. Antigua

Antigua is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve seen in Central America. Its colonial style, all the volcanos in the background, its shops full of handmade things, simply took my breath away.

5. Tikal

The best thing about Tikal is that despite its worldwide fame, it has not been ruined by excessive tourism and it is still very authentic.

Tikal ruins are the biggest in Central America, and in my opinion also the most beautiful and stunning.

It is a very magical place that you must include in your trip to Central America.

6. Caye Caulker

It is definitely heaven on earth. Its crystal water, its palm beaches, small fish restaurants and warm wind are a dream.

If you are thinking about where to go in Central America, give a chance to this place and you will have a perfect dream beach vacation.

7. Hol Chan Marine Reserve

Have you ever thought about swimming with manatees and sharks? In Belize is possible!

And did you know that Belize has the second largest barrier reef in the world?

I am talking about Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a UNESCO Heritage Site, the second largest barrier reef in the world after the one in Australia, in which you can swim with amazing animals like manatees, sharks, rays, turtles, and see perfect preserved colorful corals.

8. Volcán de Santa Ana

It is famous for its super green crater on the top and it’s the highest volcano in El Salvador.

The city of Santa Ana, in the middle of the country, is surrounded by national parks and volcanos, and you can hike them, such as the Santa Ana Volcano, in the Cerro Verde National Park.
