How to avoid procrastination?

Check out these 7 tips to stop procrastinating and become more productive.

What is procrastination?

Procrastination can be defined as the action of postponing or delaying a task.

We are all guilty of procrastination at some point or the other, be it in our college life or workplace. However, procrastination has been observed to be a little more common among college students.

How to deal with procrastination?

Check out these 8 simple tips which will help you get a handle on your procrastination and become more productive.

These steps will help if you are struggling with procrastination. Procrastination is like a worm which starts to eat your valuable time. By the time you realize, it is too late and you are only left with regrets. Thus, take action today and beat procrastination.

1. Get organized

Invest in a planner

If you find it hard to complete your daily tasks and are distracted, getting a planner might just solve the problem. Write down all your tasks for the next day, the night before. This way when you wake up the next day, your tasks are already listed. Keep marking the tasks as and when you finish them.

2. Eliminate distractions

Keep that phone away from you.

Phones are the biggest reason behind procrastination. You can either shut off your phone or launch a focus timer on your phone. This will help you focus more on your work and less on your phone.

3. Prioritize

We most often get lost without an idea of what to do first.

Always prioritize which work needs to be done first. If you have an assignment deadline coming up, that work should be on top of your list.

4. Set your goals

Goals will keep you on the right track.

Most of us procrastinate because the task at hand seems to be overwhelming. Thus, set simple yet reachable goals instead of a huge week plan. Cut down your big task into smaller tasks and assign a day and time for each. This way, your task would finish before you even realize it.

5. Take breaks

All work and no play make everyone a dull person.

Breaks are very important, whether you are at the office or studying in college. Take a 10-minute break every few hours. Use that time to walk, listen to music or draw a doodle. Breaks help you increase focus, reduce stress, and allow you to retain more information.

6. Reward yourself

Positive reinforcement works. Believe me.

Set yourself incentives which you will receive once you finish the task at hand. Once you complete the assignment, give yourself a reward. Your reward can be watching an episode of your favorite show.

7. Be accountable

You are responsible for what you do and who you become.

If you succeed, you will have yourself to thank. If you fail you will have yourself to blame. Therefore be responsible and hold yourself accountable. You can get a family member or friend to keep you on your toes by helping you check up on your deadlines, accomplishments and goals.

Good luck

Hope these steps come in handy and help you avoid procrastination
